Camp to Campus
This Bakersfield Eyewitness News coverage of Camp to Campus, which premiered at CSU Bakersfield in February, gives a taste of the inspirational stories featured in the documentary. Funded through a Community Stories grant to CSUB, Camp to Campus shares the experiences of first-generation college students who came from labor camp backgrounds in the Central Valley, faced challenges, and “beat the odds” to attend school. In addition to offering insight into the lives, challenges, and accomplishments of these young people and their families, many of whom are immigrants, the 90-minute film aims to examine the importance of higher education to the future of this traditionally agricultural region.
High school and community college students will have the chance to compete for cash prizes and scholarships to CSUB in an essay and video-essay contest about the documentary.
If you would like to arrange a screening for your organization or community, please contact project director Dr. Marit MacArthur at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 661-654-6503.
