How citizen action saved the Marin County coast

This film chronicles how a diverse group of people came together to create the Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in Marin County — and to preserve agricultural land for farmers and ranchers.

Using still photographs, motion graphics, newspaper headlines and interviews, the film covers all the major battles that took place. Producer and Director Nancy Kelly said that the film illustrates how people with vastly different ideas and from different economic and social circumstances were able to fight off real estate developers, freeways and industry.

Kelly expects the film to air on KRCB, the public television station for the North Coast of California, and on other PBS stations. “My hope is that the film will make people more aware of the power of citizen activists to preserve land, open space and agriculture,” she said.
