Weedpatch Camp featured on California's Gold

The Arvin Federal Camp, located just south of Lamont, served as the inspiration for Weedpatch Camp in "The Grapes of Wrath." Three buildings from the 30s still stand on the site, which is now part of the Sunset Migrant Housing Center. These are the only surviving structures from the Dust Bowl camp era anywhere in California. The nonprofit Dust Bowl Historical Foundation and the Housing Authority of the County of Kern are joining forces in an effort to convert the site to a historical park and visitors center
