California Reads Kickoff
Barnes and Noble in Stockton and Tracy feature a kickoff for California Reads:
Grapes of Wrath, featuring the local discussion leaders. All those who purchase
copies will receive a 20% discount.

Family Day in the Park
California Reads: Grapes of Wrath will be highlighted at the booths of the
Library and Literacy Foundation of San Joaquin and the Stockton-San Joaquin
County Public Library. The event is frequented by upwards of 10,000 people.

Grapes of Wrath" film screening
Troke Branch Library will host a showing of the 1940 film, directed by John
Ford and starring Henry Fonda as Tom Joad. The film vividly portrays the forced
exodus of the Joads from Oklahoma as a resulf of the Depression and the Dust
Bow -- and their struggles in the "promised land" of California as migrant farm
laborers. The film chronicles the Joad family's journey to seek a better life in
the face of discrimination and exploitation.

will lead the discussion.

Book discussion with Andrew Ysiano
Mr. Andrew Ysiano, publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Latino Times bimontly
newspaper, will focus on "The Grapes of Wrath" and its implications and relationship
to current immigration activity with particular emphasis on the Mexican-American
experience.
