Using events in the life of author John Steinbeck as benchmarks, Dr. Verge
will present a snapshot of California history with emphasis on the time frame
portrayed in Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Grapes of Wrath."

A facilitated discussion and comparison of the two works, the Pulitzer
Prize-winning novel and its film adaptation, winner of the Academy Award
for best director, will follow a brief overview of author John Steinbeck
and filmmaker John Ford.
