Screening of the movie starring Henry Fonda and based on the novel by John Steinbeck. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won John Ford the Oscar for best director. (1940; black & white; not rated)

Introduction to John Steinbeck and His California
Presented by Dr. Arthur Verge, professor of history at El Camino College. Using events in the life of author John Steinbeck as benchmarks, Dr. Verge will present a snapshot of California history with emphasis on the time frame portrayed in Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Grapes of Wrath."

A facilitated discussion and comparison of the two works, the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and its film adaptation, winner of the Academy Award for best director, will follow a brief overview of author John Steinbeck and filmmaker John Ford.
