Library to Host Steinbeck Celebration

The Oceanside Public Library is planning a series of events centered around the classic John Steinbeck book, The Grapes of Wrath, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the author's birth.

The library programs, scheduled throughout September and October, include a showing of the classic film adaptation of the Steinbeck book, lectures by Steinbeck scholars, a concert featuring music from the "Dust Bowl" era and displays of Steinbeck memorabilia and photographs.

The library will have multiple copies of the book on hand, including Spanish translations. The Oceanside library received a $1,000 grant to produce the programs, being offered in conjunction with the California Council for the Humanities and the California Center for the Book. Similar events are being staged at 180 public libraries across the state.
