"GRAPES OF WRATH"

Libraries get 20 copies

Public libraries in Stanislaus County will get 20 copies of "The Grapes of Wrath" as part of a campaign urging Californians to read the 1939 John Steinbeck novel this year. The books, along with a $1,000 grant and a copy of the film version, are coming from the California Council for the Humanities and its partners in the project. The county will arrange for scholars to lead discussions on the novel and film, which tell of a Dust Bowl family struggling to find farm work in the San Joaquin Valley. Merced and San Joaquin counties are getting similar grants.
