Radio series about cultures and cuisines on a Sacramento street
The stretch of Broadway in Sacramento between Interstate 5 and Highway 99 has approximately 30 restaurants representing a wide range of cuisines. This project will capture the stories of 12 or these restaurants and edit the stories into 12 51/2-minute radio broadcasts.
Project Director Joe Barr said that a recent Harvard study found that Sacramento was the most diverse and integrated city in the country “We believe the project will show Broadway as a unique, unplanned culinary mix of restaurants that has come to define a city district where everyday life is like a living history of what the rest of America imagines it can be someday,” he said.
Each radio segment will feature one restaurant, and examine that restaurant’s place on the street, its cuisine, the people who own or work there, and its customers.
The stories will be broadcast and streamed on Capital Public Radio’s four news and information radio stations. The stories will also be available on a project website.
