Project director: Verle Anderson
The California Stories grant money supported a special autumn half-day program in Mendocino County on the traditions and life of Pomo Indians in Northern California. The event, Che'Ya Traditions Alive in the New Millennium IV, featured storytellers, traditional singers and dancers, a photography exhibit, and Native American food. It took place at Mendocino College in October 2003.
The event is expected to attract a wide variety of people in the county, including students and elders. The project sponsor, Native Americana History Project, will produce a documentary video based on the four-hour event. The documentary will be used to further knowledge and understanding of Pomo Indian life and traditions.
