Documenting the history of Croatians in the San Francisco Bay Area

This multifaceted project will produce a photography exhibit, a slide show and a video on the San Francisco Bay Area Croatian community since the Gold Rush.

The video will be made from interviews with approximately 15 Croatian Americans of all ages and from diverse walks of life. Media Artist Chip Currey will create a 40-minute DVD of the interviews, interweaving the interviews with footage of the interviewees’ daily lives and family and historical photographs.

Community historian Adam Eterovich will create the exhibit and slide show from the Slavonic Center’s archival materials and from personal photographs of the center’s members.

The exhibit, slide show and video will open at the Slavonic Center’s gallery in San Francisco in October 2008 during CroatiaFest, a Croatian festival now in its 21st year. Later the work will move to venues in Berkeley and Sacramento.
