Exploring the idea of home in Antelope Valley

This 45-minute documentary video tells the stories of people who have come from diverse backgrounds to Antelope Valley to build their homes. The project is collaboration between artist Shoshana Brand, the project director, and five local adults and six local teens.

The stories focus on both the older members of the community and the young ones. The older storytellers reflect on their experience of building or making a home, and the younger residents express their hopes and wishes for their own future homes. During the shooting, the young students created two-dimensional pieces based on the concept of home and shared their work in front of the camera.

“The video addresses two main topics: the physical part of building of a house, and the process of making a house a home,” said Brand. “The project attempts to create a bond between several generations in addition to giving the youth an appreciation of the past.”
