The story of Oakland
Funds from the California Story Fund helped complete four 30-minute broadcast-quality televisions programs that wove together the voices of scholars, community historians and elected officials to tell the story of Oakland.
The four-part TV series, broadcast in March 2004, broke into manageable chunks the 150 years of Okland history and featured a broad section of people as storytellers. They included leading African Americans, Asian Americans, Latino and Native Americans. The goal of the project was to give the broader community an understanding of the city's past and to lay the groundwork for a dialogue about its future.
