Mapping Oakland’s Chinatown stories

This project will develop a website featuring an interactive digital map of Oakland’s Chinatown, where users can click on a specific place and listen to or read the stories of individuals associated with that place. The website will also contain a timeline of historical events affecting Oakland’s Chinese American community, and allow users to submit stories.

The stories on the website will come from an earlier oral history project that involved Oakland high school students in gathering stories.

The website will be launched at public event in spring 2009. The event will feature a photography exhibit featuring historical photos of Oakland’s Chinatown and provide opportunities for attendees to contribute stories to the site.
