Capturing the stories of L.A. tradeswomen

This project will involve at-risk high school students in gathering and videotaping the stories of tradeswomen in Los Angeles County.

“Rosie the Riveter stories are fairly well known, but the stories of more recent Rosies who work as construction workers, firefighters, port workers and the like are less widely publicized,” said Project Director Vivian Price, an assistant professor at CSU Dominguez Hills and a former union electrician. “This project will shine a light an almost invisible community in our midst.”

The project will involve creating videotaped portraits of at least 10 tradeswoman, taking photographs of the women for an exhibit, and building a website. The public will have a chance to see and discuss the work of the project at three public events in early 2010.
