“Don’t Erase My History”

Project Director: Andrea Fazel
Filmmaker: Thomas Michael Coberg
Humanities Scholar: Martin Meeker, Regional Oral History Office, University of California, Berkeley
A group of ten Ally Action LGBT youth and Ally youth leaders will work with Ally Action staff to create a short documentary film about LGBT history in California and participants' connection to that history. Ally Action is a nonprofit that works to eliminate anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender bias and violence in local school communities.
The film will feature archival materials, as well as interviews with prominent adults and youth from various cultural backgrounds. It will also include the voices of the young filmmakers as they reflect on their connection to LGBT history and their perspective on having this history left out of school curricula.
Said Andrea Fazel, the project director and executive director of Ally Action, “ Our objective is to create a dynamic discussion resource that will open minds and spark dialogue in high schools, colleges, community groups and families.”
