A team of young filmmakers from the towns of Mt. Shasta, Happy Camp and the Karuk Nation will create a film about the geography, culture and history of Siskiyou County.

“They will examine the origins of the county’s native culture and the historical beginnings of statehood,” said Project Director Mark Oliver. “They will also look at the County today. With half of our 47,00 residents living in relative seclusion, we are often forgotten when one speaks of California. We hope that this film will change that.”

The youths will be drawn from Mt. Shasta High School, Happy Camp High School and the Karuk nation, whose tribal headquarters is located in Happy Camp. “My goal is to empower kids with the confidence that they can create a film about issues they care about.”
